the final days....

of kindergarten.

Lily is nearing the last day of kindergarten. I cannot believe that this school year is wrapping up! I thought I take a moment to share some of my thoughts about this year here.

The most striking thing this year for me was the transformation of my little girl. Lily has always been a big dreamer, doer and learner. She is interested in learning all things about most things...if that makes sense. She wants to know about space and time and people, human biology, ecology, art, history, bugs, fossils, astronomy, heroes and villains. If you teach Lily about something it must be the facts, the true story and realistic. She will store away everything you tell her for later use in conversation. Just this year she has expanded her world view 100,000,000 times. Because of this expanded world view, our dinner conversations have become a lot more interesting.

Lily's growth over this past year has been apparent nearly every day but Lily is very much still herself. Her flair for fashion has not gotten lost in the world of peer pressure. There was a period mid-year where she was dressing much more boring...but these last few weeks she has amped it back up Lily-style. This fact makes me happy beyond words. I will be brokenhearted the day Lily starts to care more about what people say about her than she cares about how she feels about herself. I have my fingers crossed that we will never cross that bridge with Lily. She is the most self-assured individual on the planet. Let's hope she remains herself through all things.

As I look to the future I am excited. I am looking forward to Lily growing and learning even more. The best part of being a parent is getting to know your kids as they are, not as you had dreamed them to be.
