A very hungry grasshopper

Lily caught some grasshoppers at the lake. She decided to keep them as pets and instantly became obsessed with what grasshoppers eat. It was way past bedtime by the time we were on our way home, so we didn't allow her the research time to answer the diet question. I told her we would check in the morning and to leave them alone. Tom told her if he heard any more about the grasshoppers that night that they would be living in the wild before morning.

That night, when we got home, she kept trying to make excuses to go back out to the van for something. I thought she was stalling bedtime and made her go to bed. After about thirty minutes of staying in her room, she came in my room and we had this conversation:

Lily (with serious desperation in her voice): Mom.....I have to tell you something. One of the grasshoppers got away in your van.

Mom: Oh, is that what you're worried about? It's no big deal. I'm sure he is fine and we can check in the morning.

Lily: But, Mom. What if the grasshopper eats your van!?

Me: Wha--??

Lily: Mom. We do not know what they eat! What if it eats your van?!

Me: Oh, Lily. The van in safe. Go. To. Bed.
