These pictures are over a month old and I am slacking so much with the blog that I'm just now posting them. This is Lily posing with her Valentine's Day mailbox for school. It's in her typical fancy style and she wanted me to take a picture of her kissing it. So, here ya go.

On the way to school today Lily was telling me that they had finished reading the book The Indian In the Cupboard but they couldn't watch the movie because of language. Apparently there is a bad word used during the movie so her teacher told her they'd have to as their parents to watch it at home. Lily continued to tell me that she knew the s-word, the b-word and the d-word. I was brave enough to ask what they meant. I'm happy to say she has at least a few more months of innocence left. The s-word was "stupid"; the b-word was "butt"; and the d-word was "dumb." I can live with that. I acted shocked and told her she was right not to use that language. And I was grateful that she is unaware of the s-word, b-word and d-word I use on a regular basis.

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.....

I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you. So, let's make the most of this beautiful day....Since we're together I might as well say....Won't you be, won't you be, please won't you be my neighbor?


Last night when the girls and I got home from the downtown Third Thursday event the neighbors tiny poodle came running over to greet us. Lily was super excited, so we traipsed over to meet the neighbor and her dog Maggie. Tom met this neighbor the first day we moved in. They were super friendly and brought us a plate full of freshly baked cookies. Last night was the first time that the kids and I had met the woman, Candy.

I think Candy and Lily have already developed quite a friendship. Candy was so sweet to the girls and when she found out that Lily was an artist she invited Lily to bring her artwork over anytime. She told Lily she would love to hang some of her artwork on her refrigerator. That was all it took for Lily. She came right inside the house and put together a lovely drawing for her new friend. She then ran right over to her house, knocked on the door and delivered the gift.

I have a feeling that that is the start of a beautiful friendship. Lily loves being with adults. She loves creating and sharing her art. And from the looks of things, Candy feels the same way about Lily. This morning we were out the door first thing but as soon as we came home for lunch, Lily was in the basement making something new for Candy....and has already made her delivery for the day.

I look forward to watching this friendship develop. I know that Drew and Julianna will also love having a neighbor that is so sweet and kind to them. I have always wanted a neighbor just like her!

raising an artist

Lily leaves her artistic mark wherever she can. I thought I would share a bit of her work on here. These a few of the things you would see if you took a walk through our house:

Lily painted this for me for my birthday. She took down something I had hanging here because she thought hers would look better...she was right...but, I sure did like what was hanging here first.

this is hanging on one side of our fireplace. She got some tape for Christmas, so she's been hanging a lot more of her work up around the house.

This is the other side of the fire place. It's her note and picture to Santa. He forgot to take it...so I'm not sure, but we might have to leave it here until next Christmas.

This is just an example of the random stickers that you may find stuck throughout our house. The dots are because she had used this sticker to adapt an existing game we have.

This is her current arrangement in her room. The painting on the left is my favorite piece of hers...she won't let me have it..or even hang it in the living room.

This is a piece of wood leftover from the benches we had in the kitchen. She couldn't resist the clean white surface. (The drawings were there before Tom had actually removed the benches.)

This is my white board calender that I usually have hanging in the kitchen. She needed to decorate it for me.

This girl has a compulsion to be creative. I hope that we give her enough space and freedom to explore her passion. I can't say that I'm always happy about the artwork that appears in my house...but I always appreciate the artist.

*She has actually done a rather large peice in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. However, I haven't figured out how to make it fit on the blog. When I figure it out, we will share.
