move over jane fonda

Let me just tell you: today was crazy. Specifically, Lily. I have to say though, we made it through the day with minimum freak outs from me or her...so we have come a long way.

This morning she woke up with a new found passion for working out. She was running the stairs in our house, up and down, up and down. UP AND DOWN! Then she moved on to jumping jacks...she says she did 100. She then changed outfits and said she was ready for yoga and then a run. "I just have to be healthy and workout! I gotta run!!" Somewhere during all of this she took a break to eat three times, even though she'd already had a toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast. She had some toast and jelly and then she ate a quarter of a box of baby spinach and carrots and then some broccoli. She was a girl possessed! What I should also add is that this all took place in a thirty minute window. Just those activities. And I think I'm probably skipping some of the things that she managed to fit into her thirty minute workout.

At about 9:30 this morning my mom came and picked up Drew. It was his turn to do a little art project with her, so I just had the girls and was planning on using that time to go do our weekly grocery shopping. I don't know what I was thinking, being that Lily hadn't actually stopped moving for the three hours that she'd been awake. I don't even think she'd stopped talking. I was going to do the trip anyway. We have no food.

I told the girls to run out to the car and get their seat belts buckled. Lily told me she wasn't going to ride in the car. It was safer to walk. She was just going to walk to the grocery store. She'd follow me to the store. She knew how to get there. It was safer for her to walk than ride in the car. She was just going to walk in the grass the whole way. It would be fine. She needed the workout. No, no and no was all I kept repeating to her. She was not hearing me. She was headed down the driveway and I said, no - again. She didn't seem to think that I was serious. She seemed to think that I was, in fact, going to let her WALK TO THE STORE. She seemed to think it wasn't a really big deal. That her health was on the line.

I don't know if I have to say this, but we didn't go to the store. I briskly walked to catch up with her and escorted her into the house. She was pretty mad about this because she had packed her purse for the trip. She was looking forward to making a few purchase at the grocery store. Instead we stayed home and I tried to maintain my sanity.
