A few weeks before our summer vacation Lily and my mother in-law were discussing what they would bring on the airplane for entertainment. Lily said the most hilarious thing. She told Ann, "I sure hope Julianna doesn't bring one of her baby dolls on the airplane. That would be sooo embarrassing!"
Seriously? Lily. She's three. Not thirteen. It would be normal for even LILY to bring a baby doll on her vacation. I could not believe that Lily was getting embarrassed!
That was funny enough. But then yesterday, yesterday Lily really misunderstood how she is in this world. Yesterday, Julianna wore a purple dress with butterflies and some tourquise blue ruffle pants underneath. Lily was MORTIFIED. She tried to convince Julianna to change her clothes. And when that didn't work, she tried to convince me to force Julianna to change her clothes. "That doesn't look good! People will make fun of her! She will be so embarrassed."
When I explained to Lily that she'd worn similar outfits when she was three, and even older, Lily wanted proof. She wanted to see the pictures of the day that she wore something so EMBARRASSING in her life. She was never convinced that she'd ever done something so like wear an outfit similar to Julianna's. She would never!
