moments from today

Today Lily ask me to list the reasons why wearing underwear was necessary. I could hardly come up with one.

Today we went to the library to get some new books. We were also picking out some audio books for our upcoming road trip to my grandparents farm. Lily found a favorite story of hers from school called "Arnie the Donut" in the audio books. She told Amy (her aunt that works at the library) that there was another book, about scrambled states of America, by this same author. She asked Amy to help her find it. Sure enough, Lily was correct. There was a book called "The Scrambled States of America" by the same author. It's amazing to me that she remembers this sort of thing.

My friend Andrea gave Drew a tennis racket today. He was really excited about it and so today, in the heat, he convinced me to play "tennis" with him in the garage. It basically required me to toss the ball for him to hit and then wait for him to chase it down and toss it back to me. I was texting between tosses (I know, I'm terrible). I swear I only texted a couple of times and then Drew said, "Mom! You don't play tennis with a phone!" And that was the end of my texting for the day.

Today Julianna was playing babies where she didn't think I could hear her. She was trying to put her babies to bed, but apparently they weren't staying in bed like they were supposed to. I heard her saying, "Stay in bed, baby. This is not funny! We are not going to the bathroom again! Stay in bed. Shhhh! Baby is sleeping." I'm happy to report that she reflected a very patient parent that didn't really get upset, but was persistent in her effort to get her baby to stay in bed. Sadly, the game she played did not translate to a better bedtime. For some reason she has gotten really bad about going to bed. It lasted one hour and 25 minutes tonight. I know she was tired because I had to wake her up to pick Lily up from gymnastics. I know she was ready for sleep....I am so tired of the drawn out tortured bedtime.

I totally relate to the long bedtime routine. Emma and Taylor did the same thing. I hate to discourage you, but a YEAR later, its finally better.

You wear underwear so that when your playing on the playground in a skirt, no one sees your bottom. And jeans are really uncomfortable without them.

Thanks Alisha. I'm hoping that Julianna will settle back into a routine soon. I seem to be making it worse and not better by being involved. I have such a hard time being hardcore when I just want her to be quiet and go to sleep.

About the undies, both very good reasons that I will be sharing with Lily. :)

underwear isn't necessary in my opinion, unless you are wearing a skirt. i rarely wear it! and once you go without it in jeans for a day, it doesn't bother you anymore. :)

Amber! I never would have pegged you as a commando kind of girl. ;)

All great little things from a day with your kids!

You wear underwear so that you will have something fun to look at while you are pottying (I assume kids underwear is still as fun as when I was little).
