Dear Lily...

Dear Lily,

Here we are at the end of summer again. You are starting first grade in a few short days. You are extremely excited to start school and after the open house last night you came home and packed your back pack for school. You plan on taking a bookmark (for all of the chapter books you'll be reading), an extra headband or two and two of your books about the human body. You are sure that your teacher will be interested in seeing your books.

I'm not sure how to explain to you the change I've seen in you this summer. You have matured so much and are so smart and insightful. You have become less my little girl and more a growing, changing person finding your way in the world. You care so much about your family and your world. You are absolutely the definition of tree-hugger. And you are the epitome of creative.

You and I have come a long way. As you start another year of school, I am celebrating how far we have come and how much we have left to go. I will not assume that it will be smooth sailing from here on out, but you better believe I know that you can handle whatever life has to toss at you. So, keep you mind on your work, don't lose your sparkle and be the best you can be. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Love,
Mommy
