safety first

To set the scene: A wasp is buzzing around our house. My friend Sarah is calmly hunting the wasp to remove him from the house without alerting Lily.

It didn't work.

Lily identified the pest and became extremely concerned. She spotted the wasp and yelled, "EVERYONE TO THE SAFE ROOM NOW!!"

We do not have a safe room.

However, Drew and Julianna followed Lily into her room and she slammed the door.

A few minutes later Drew came out of her room, bored with the current emergency. We then heard Lily yell to him, "Drew! Get back in the safe room! You're going to get STUNG!!"

The wasp was removed. There were no injuries.

The fourth of July is always a busy, fun weekend with family at the lake.

My kids follow all safety rules to a tee. The biggest rule at the lake: you must wear a life jacket by the water at all times. No exceptions.

Drew noticed that Charles (a grown up) wasn't wearing his life belt at the water's edge while fishing. Drew looks at his grandma and says, "Look who is NOT wear a life jacket! Somebody JUST MIGHT SINK!!"

Lake safety is serious business.

You can count on my kids to keep you safe.
