Disney Day Five: Magic Kingdom

As you may recall, Lily went to bed last night with a fever. If I had to guess how high, I would say around 101 or 102. She was feeling pretty terrible. At 4 am this morning she was up and vomiting. We all slept in this morning until about 8. Lily was moving slow and said she had a headache. We gave her the option to stay home or to go to the park with us. We promised that if she did go to the park with us she could lay in the stroller and come home early if she wasn't feeling well. She decided to come to the park at the last minute. She was such a trooper. Thank heaven I packed the Tylenol.

We actually didn't make it to the park until much later than we had planned. It was okay though, I'm glad we gave Lily time to sleep in. When I think about dragging my sick child out into the heat and craziness of Disney, I shudder with mommy guilt...so let's not think about that too much. I am proud of how well she did, despite feeling like crap. She adjusted and stayed in high spirits all day. She really deserves a gold star.

First thing at the Magic Kingdom, we saw Cinderella's castle. It was a bit anti-climactic. I think Lily made an excited face for my picture...but wasn't feeling the joy I was hoping she would feel. I thought the castle was pretty spectacular!

Surprisingly, the day really went well. We checked everything off our list of to-do's. We rode the Astro Orbiter, the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin (twice) and then caught a show at the Monster Inc. Laugh Floor. After that, we caught a dance party in the main square. Drew and I joined in and did a dance with Mr. Incredible. And Drew even got a high five from him! There were all sorts of characters at the dance party. It was so fun to spot them all. We did all of this before lunch!

Tom is such a stud. As I mentioned before, he did months of research for this trip. He had everything planned out so that we could hit everything we wanted in the least amount of time, with the least amount of waiting. He rocked it today. As I just finished saying, we finished many activities before lunch. And what is even more impressive is we did no more than 15 minutes of waiting in line for any one ride or show. And if you don't know, sometimes people wait in line for 90 minutes or more. For one ride! We did none of that. We went from ride or activity straight to the next one without having to do anything but stay together in a crowd. Tom planning skills are truly impressive.

So, after lunch we headed over to the pirate area. We took a pirate boat ride. Drew was shockingly brave. Tom keeps saying that if you don't suggest fear then there won't be any. Well, I don't know if that's always true, but Drew really did well. He was understandably nervous about the skeleton pirates and the dark scary scenes, but he really did enjoy himself. After the pirate boat ride, we went and had a pirate tutorial from Captain Jack Sparrow. Drew, with his newly found bravery, was called up to the front by a pirate before the show. He helped the pirate set up the boundary rope for the pirate show. However, later when they were asking for people to come on stage to take the pirate oath, only Lily had the courage to join in. Although, if I'd let go of Julianna she'd have been up there too.

After the pirates we went on a Jungle Cruise. It's more of a comedy boat ride with fake animals. They made Tom, Lily and I laugh, but Drew and Julianna just came along for the ride. After the cruise, Julianna finally crashed in the stroller for a nap and Drew wasn't too far behind. While they slept, Lily and I went for a ride on the fancy Mary Poppins looking carousal and perused a fancy princess boutique.

When the kids woke up, we caught a 3-D movie, Mickey's Philharmonic. It was super cool and amazing. There was stuff flying at you, smells to go with what was on the screen and even some water to go with a particularly went scene. Julianna did not like most of it as it was pretty intense. But the other two like it well enough. :) They have found some courage they didn't know they had before this trip.

We came home early today to give Lily plenty of time to recover and get ready for tomorrow. Hopefully she will be feeling fine tomorrow. We are planning a long day so that we can catch the fireworks show at Magic Kingdom tomorrow night. Our plan includes come back to the hotel mid afternoon to catch a really long nap. We'll see how it goes. I hope that we didn't push Lily too much today. Tomorrow we have a lot of stuff planned with her in mind. Please send healthy thoughts to Florida.

P.S. Pictures will be coming when we get home. It's too hard to load them to Tom's computer here. I've gotten some pretty good shots for you to look forward too!
