you know the type

Today my friends and I were discussing a certain kind of mommy. The kind that never leaves the house without full make-up, designer jeans and her hair teased just so. We wondered how they do it. I still don't know. What time are these people getting up in the morning? What are their kids doing while they are teasing their hair? (Because, today I took a 10 minute shower and came upstairs to find Lily had climbed on the fridge and reached the art supplies. And in the time it took me to wash my hair, she had cut Drew's hair and painted the kitchen with watercolors).

I am still in awe of the mom that can maintain her pre-baby appearance and manage to make it out of the house every morning like that. What is her secret? Now, I totally get the need for a working mom to be up and together for her day at work. I've said before that I admire their ability to hold it together with the job, the kids and the husband. What I'm really wondering about is: How can some people look good ALL. THE. TIME.? You know the type. For example, there is a mom at Lily's preschool drop off and she wears a pink (sometimes blue) hooded sweatshirt and black yoga pants every day. Every. Day. And she ALWAYS looks good. How is it possible? Even on the days that I manage to get my flat iron through my hair and mascara on my eyelashes...I don't look that put together. And all the woman is wearing is a hooded sweatshirt and yoga pants. I have both of those clothing items in my closet...but I look like a slob when I wear them. Seriously.

Usually, if I can get may hair combed and styled, then I don't have clothes to match the hair. Or, if I get a cute outfit put together, then my hair is tied in a knot all day. Make up? I keep that in the car...so if I catch a few minutes in a parking spot...I can swipe some mascara on my lashes. And! You know what else? I have THREE sticks of deodorant stashed in my house and car...because it never fails...I am always forgetting that step of my morning routine. I have them stashed so that when I start smelling myself...there is always some handy.

If you have any insight into this topic, feel free to comment. Because, even on the days I have it together...I still find banana squished and dried all over my shirt.

ONCE upon a time.... said...

i wait to get dressed for work until the VERY LAST MINUTE. otherwise there is banana squished on my shirt.....all day! i still manage to get SOMETHING on my shirt or pants related to kids!! seriously, though, i wonder if that mom who always looks so good spends quality time with her kids, or if she spends all her time trying to look good. because, in the end, isn't it more important that you have spent the morning WITH your kids instead of yelling at them from the bathroom as you get all pretty? that's my philosophy. on the weekends i don't get dressed until z is napping, and sometimes i just wash my body and throw my hair into a tiny ponytail. because i'd rather spend my waking hours with z. don't feel envious of that other mom. i admire you much more because you are such a caring, present mom. i'm worried that when i'm a SAHM i will not be able to live up to the huge standards you have set!! love you!

My wife also feels the same but that is only her perception but everyday for me she is beautiful. I think you should be confident.
